Hair loss is a frustrating problem that hurts men more psychologically than physically. It could be the last straw for some men who have lost their girlfriend or wife as well as job. There have even been reports of suicide by few bald men. However, losing hope can never solve a problem. The better alternative is to look for some hair loss medicine that ensures hair loss control like Propecia.

Pattern baldness is the most common form of hair loss in men. This type of hair loss occurs due to gradual shrinking of the follicles that produces hair. It is mainly caused due to genetic factors and presence of high levels of dihydrotestosterone, which is a male sex hormone.

Some hair loss treatments can cause side effects. So, you need to be watchful and a prior knowledge about the drug proves quite useful whenever you opt for a medicine. There are many hair loss treatments available for men. There are even some home based therapies for hair loss control. However, the best way is do a medical consultation and seek an effective hair loss treatment.

During clinical trials regarding a treatment for prostate problems in men, scientists found that the medication also boosted hair re-growth. Further research led to the development of Propecia. The ingredient of prostate treatment drug was same as that of Propecia.

This hair loss medicine is now available in the UK on prescription. It has shown high success rates of hair loss control among bald men. However, you should not buy Propecia without obtaining a prescription from your GP. Like all prescription drugs, this hair loss treatment can cause some side effects that are reversible in nature. Once you stop the hair loss treatment, these will disappear.

Gear up while You Ride

Riding stylish harley davidson motorcycles during summer requires a different motorcycle suit or jacket when riding on it in winter. In simply riding a motorcycle, you should consider comfort and safety above anything else and take weather into account to make sure you’ll get enough protection and get rid of colds while riding.

Summer jackets often have a shorter and a thin liner to ensure protection even during a hot weather day. Protection could vary from a minimum extra padding to good solid armor. Rain jackets can protect you from water to get to your clothes during the rain. Rain suits are a combination of rain jackets and pants to ensure whole body protection. Winter jackets on the other hand, are longer than summer jackets. It should be equipped with a detachable liner, good seals and safety features. Since winter jackets cater more safety features, it is more expensive than summer jackets and their price is increasing very fast.

You should also top your gear up and protect your head with a helmet. You can choose from Full face helmets that provide good protection around the chin or Hybrid helmets that’s perfect for riders who wear glasses; open face helmets for protection of the ears and sides of the face or motor cross helmets that includes a dirtcap and space for your goggles.

Playing it Healthy

Exercise is indeed an essential part of a healthy lifestyle. We need exercise to be physically fit and have a healthy body. Exercise involves physical activities that improve the body’s flexibility and increases muscular strength and endurance. It can also build healthy bones, muscles and joints. Physical activities also have positive effects in the psychological aspect of humans. It reduces feelings of despair and anxiety, improves mood and promotes a sense of well-being. There are also claims that people who exercise regularly have a lower risk of suffering from stroke.

There are different forms of exercise which could be as light as walking in the morning to something as heavy as playing certain sports like swimming or athletics or going to the gym to carry some weights.

Badminton is my favorite sport. Whenever I play badminton, I feel so light and fast as if I can catch and hit the shuttle cock anywhere it lands. Since it is my favorite, I play badminton three times a week. Before, it was just a hobby for me, until I read articles about how much it burns calories in the human body! Knowing how much calories it burns makes me love playing the sport more! 300 calories in an hour is no joke!

That C

I woke up this morning with a cold and a heavy feeling as if I am going to have fever. It was very hot yesterday noon, with a temperature of 30 Celsius and cooled the weather down in the afternoon when the rain poured. It is summer time and it is kinda weird for rain to pour in this season so I failed to bring an umbrella along with me when I went to my office. Bathing in the rain in a rainy summer afternoon isn’t a good idea.

Luckily, I found oranges on the dining table and reminded me of my childhood memories about Vitamin C, which I think is what I need in times like this. When I was a kid, my mom always tells us to eat citrus fruits which she says contain very high amount of Vitamin C, which is according to her protects and boosts our immune system. Until I had the habit of reading health articles, I had the belief that citrus fruits are the major sources of Vitamin C. I just learned that there are other fruits and even vegetables which are good sources of Vitamin C. Papaya, red and green bell peppers and even my favorite broccoli are also rich in this important vitamin! The amounts of vitamin C they contain are more than those in strawberries and oranges. Supplements which are readily available in the market, known as ascorbic acid, is also a good source of Vitamin C.

Vitamin C is very important when we have colds, fever and even for severe illnesses such as asthma, depression, Parkinson’s disease, etc.

Prevention is still better than cure. Too bad for me since I have no choice left but to cure this cold. Gotta grab those Vitamin C rich foods and satisfy my cravings! Next time, I’ll just bring my umbrella and grab C-enriched foods to prevent myself from catching colds.

H2O

Drinking 8 glasses of water everyday is a healthy habit. Yup! And I do this too, to be fit and healthy.

Since I was a kid, I drink at least 8 glasses of water and even more than the minimum when I feel like my tonsils are swollen or I’m gonna catch a cold.

A friend of mine told me that she has a different habit, which is according to her, a healthier one! She drinks extra 750 ml of water in the morning before breakfast, aside from the recommended daily intake of 8 glasses. In this habit, it allows the body to use only the 750ml of water to flush away all the toxins that the body has. All the unwanted substances in the body are washed away when you perspire or urinate after drinking, I tried to do the same and I felt more refreshed after drinking that much liquid just after jumping out of bed.

There are a lot of benefits when you drink enough water everyday. It cleanses the body by washing away toxins and other unwanted substance. Because of this, our skin becomes clearer and fairer = less pimples and it also replenishes the lost minerals when we perspire after a physical activity = a healthier body..

Drinking 8 or more glasses of water a day is a healthy habit. Just be careful not to drown yourself with water more than what the body needs. Or else minerals which are equally important to the body will be drowned too.

Tin cans

Deformed cans in canned drinks or goods are dangerous to your health!

According to our Degradation of Materials professor, tin cans are made of two materials: Tin and Aluminum. These two materials have different properties and are used in different applications.

Corrosion, a form of degradation, takes place in different scenarios. And one of these is exposure of two metals in contact to factors that causes corrosion such as water, air and stress, etc. Tin and aluminum have different responses to certain amounts of water, air and stress. If two materials in contact have different responses to external factors, and are exposed to these, the weaker material becomes the sacrificial material and be the one to degrade first.

When the tin cans are deformed, “wounds” in the can causes the two metals in contact to be exposed to either the water or air inside the can itself, or the external factors that also causes corrosion. These wounds are where corrosion takes place. It creates a nucleating point and is where rust, the degraded form of metal, is formed. Rust is an unwanted form of the metal since it contaminates the contents of the can and it is dangerous to our health

So when you buy canned products in the store, make sure to choose undeformed cans to make sure you won’t eat the rust caused by the degradation.

How to Help Prevent Childhood Obesity

There is a growing trend in America that each year more children are weighing in on the scale as obese. According to the National Center of Health Statistics 17%-19% more children were obese then in previous years.1 More than double the number of children are obese than were in 1980.2

What is causing this increase in overweight children? How can we help our children not to be part of these numbers? There are a few simple things you can do from a small age to make sure your children are at a healthy weight for their age. I will discuss 4 of them in this article.

Be aware that never in this article will I suggest putting a young child on a diet. A young child’s metabolism is fragile and dieting can permanently damage it. A young child should never diet unless under constant medical supervision.

1) Healthy Snacks — One of the best things you do for your children is to provide them with healthy snacks. I don’t mean health food bars; I mean fresh fruit and vegetables. I know the vegetables are a stretch for some kids, but if your child is young around 1-3 years old, this is the perfect time to start offering raw vegetables as a snack or at dinner. Young children are just developing their eating preferences and are willing to try new foods, especially if they see their caregiver also eating the same food. If your child is older, it isn’t too late. It has been proven that it only takes giving your child a food approximately 20 times before there taste buds find the food normal and common. So be persistent in giving them the foods and sooner or latter they will stop saying they don’t like it and it will be easily eaten.

So now we have discussed how to get your child to eat raw vegetables. Now, let’s discuss why we want your children to eat the raw vegetables. The natural antioxidants in the raw fruits and vegetables may help to fight fat.3

It has been found that the pigment that makes fruits and vegetables purple, dark blue and dark red (Anthocyanins) also helps to prevent obesity.4 Berries such as blueberries and raspberries are especially high in these Anthocyanins along with Purple or Dark Red Grapes skins. When extract from these berries, such as blueberry extract, were used, they were the most effective in helping to prevent obesity. If you decide to buy an extract, make sure it contains the Anthocyanin in the ingredient list.

Along with the wonderful benefit of the purple pigmented fruit and vegetables there are benefits to eating all raw fruits and vegetables. Fruits and Vegetables are low calorie foods that provide your body with needed nutrition and they have high fiber that helps your child feel full. Other wonderful fruit snacks are sliced apples, pears, bananas, orange slices, watermelon wedges, cantaloupe balls, etc. There are a variety of fruits and vegetables filled with natural vitamins that your children’s bodies needs daily. These snacks will help them grow strong, be healthy and maintain a good body weight.

If you feel like you just can not get your child to eat any fresh fruit or vegetables there is a new study out that show children were twice as likely to eat fruits and vegetables if they are home grown.5 There is something about growing the food in the back yard that makes it more desirable to eat to your child. So if needed break out the hoe and some seed packets and grow some fruit and vegetables for a season or two, until your child learns to eat them.

2) Limit the amount of juice your child drinks. Juice may be fortified with some vitamins but it contains very little natural vitamins. Although I find 100% natural juice a better choice then Kool-Aid or soda pop, it is still a drink high in sugar. Most nutritionists suggest only having 1 - 2 cups of juice a day and having all other thirst quenching drinks of the day to be water. In fact, it is suggested that our bodies need approximately 8 cups of water a day or 64 oz of water (approximately 2 liters). If we are filling this need with other means besides water then we are putting in a lot of unneeded calories. Let’s think about it. Water has 0 calories per cup. One cup of juice has 110 calories with some vitamins. 1 cup of soda also has approximately 110 calories with no vitamins. If a child is drinking 8 cups of soda or other sugary drinks each day they have consumed 880 calories that they didn’t need, that could be an extra pound every week of sugar pouring in the child.

3) Encourage your child to go outside and play. Some children take no encouragement at all and live outside. But some kids prefer to be inside watching TV or playing games or on the computer. I have one of those kids. I allow some time at these activities and then I say, “Enough”, it is time to be outside. My child does not want to go. She kicks and throws fits. But I help her put her shoes on and get ready to go outside I gently push her out the door and direct her to which friends house she can go to request them to come play with her, I watch her walk to the neighboring house mumbling and upset that mom could be so mean. However, when her friend comes out they play for the next 2 hours. They have so much fun. They run around, they ride bikes, and when it is time for dinner I get all sorts of grumbles about how can I be so mean to make her come back inside.

For younger children, who can not play independently outside, send them out to the back yard. This is a safe spot where they will still get some run around time. Have some toys and play equipment that encourages healthy exercise for there age. We have a trampoline with a safety net. My younger children spend hours in the back yard jumping on the trampoline. They get their exercise.

4) Make sure your child gets enough sleep. A new study shows that children who slept less then 10 hours at night were at a much higher risk of being over weight then those who got at least 12 hours of sleep at night. Lack of sleep lowers the level of a hormone your body produces called Leptin. Leptin stimulates metabolism and decreases hunger, too little sleep deprives your body of this hormone. In addition, when you get to little sleep your body will boost the concentration of ghrelin, a hormone that increases hunger.6 Enough sleep is necessary to make sure your child’s body is functioning correctly to help them maintain a healthy body weight.

The four main keys to helping your child maintain a healthy body weight are: make sure they eat healthy snacks. Limit the amount of sugary drinks they have and provide them with lots of water. Make sure they are able to get some outside time, whether it is through play or sports. Last make sure your child gets enough sleep for his or her age. Growing children need more than the 8 hours of the standard adult. These things should help you in providing a good healthy start for your child.

Risk Factors for Heart Problems

Risk factors for heart diseases may vary widely. Habits of a person can create risk to be a victim for heart disorders. Smoking, Hypertension, High Cholesterol level and high Triglyceride levels in blood, Tension/Stress/Strain etc.. may be the risk factors for heart disorders.

1) Smoking: The habit to smoke may increase the chance of getting heart disease of coronary arteries. Smoke may interrupt the blood circulation or creates a vacuum type of state in a part of blood vessel. Chain smokers are very prone to cardiac diseases.

2) Hypertension: The cause of hypertension is unknown and its symptoms do not appear until it has reaches an advanced state. In persons with cardiac disorders it increases the heart’s workload and may contribute in hardening of the arteries.

3) High Cholesterol and high triglyceride level in the blood: It is not known exactly how high cholesterol and triglyceride levels in blood contribute to the development of heart disease. These are produced by the body for normal body functions. The excessive fatty material deposits along the arteries and forms ‘plaques’ or ‘atheromas’, which lead to the blockages of arteries.

4) Tension / Stress: Stress alone probably does not cause cardiac disease. However, it may weaken the body’s defense mechanisms against disease. We cannot do very much to alter the stress in our lives but we can improve the ways in which we react to a stress. Some helpful ways to reduce stress and related illnesses are:

1. Breathing exercises

2. Meditation techniques

3. Regular exercises or participation in sports

5) Lack of exercises: Lack of exercises slows down the rate of blood circulation and blood pressure by which disorders may occur gradually. The person suffering from Obesity may need the exercise most.

6) Obesity: Obesity leads to high cholesterol and other body fats content. Cholesterol gets deposited in arteries and causes blockages in arteries. To lower the risk of progression of cardiac diseases you should achieve and then maintain a body weight normal.

7) Diabetes:

In general your food habits cause diabetes. Diabetic body contains high sugar, which may create a viscosity in blood vessels, leads to improper blood flow and blood pressure.
