How to Stop the Spread of Hepatitis

Public knowledge of the Hepatitis virus is generally very limited and I’ll admit that all I knew about it was that it could be transmitted through tattoo needles and was a worldwide problem.

So why isn’t something being done to stop the spread of Hepatitis? I’m glad to say that actually, there is something being done, but it could do with your help. By signing up to www.aminumber12.org you are helping to raise awareness of this devastating disease. Another way to help out is to share your knowledge of Hep. Simply avoiding sharing razors, toothbrushes and needles can reduce the risk of infection considerably. If you are looking to get a tattoo or piercing then make sure you go to a licensed parlour where the instruments are heavily sterilized. Some forms of Hepatitis are spread through sexual contact, and I know it gets drummed into us all the time, but condoms are the only reliable way to prevent infection through sex barring celibacy.

Sometimes we don’t think about the consequences of our actions, and sometimes this is because we are unaware of what they might be. Telling a friend or relative how Hepatitis is spread and how it can be avoided could be the difference between life and death.
